March Madness 2015: Don’t sleep on Duke

Head Coach: Mike Krzyzewski

There’s no other way to say this. Mike Krzyzewski is Duke Blue Devils basketball. The man has been with the program since 1980 and has won five national championships. Krzyzewski is also the winningest coach in NCAA history, with a record of 1,043-320 in time spent with Duke and the United States Military Academy.

And all Krzyzewski has done at Duke is win, his run-and-gun offense electrifying the Cameron Crazies and constantly keeping the Blue Devils in the picture as a national championship contender. Duke has made the NCAA Tournament in all but four of the Hall of Famer’s seasons at the helm, and one of those shouldn’t even count since he took a leave of absence midseason in the 1994-95 campaign to undergo major back surgery.

This year marks Krzyzewski’s 23rd overall trip to the Sweet Sixteen, which is kind of miraculous in itself given all of Duke’s issues in the latter half of the regular season. It just goes to show that when it comes to getting the best out of his players, the man known as Coach K is at or near the top of the list, and punching a ticket to the Elite Eight would only confirm that.
