For decades now, video games have been a nice way to unwind from the rigors of life and escape reality for a bit. When your job involves hitting and being hit on a daily basis, the need to have that relaxing outlet becomes even more apparent.
For Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, indulging in video games from time to time is a perfect way to take some time and step away from the grind of the NFL. During a Microsoft-sponsored event for the upcoming release of Gears of War 4 for Xbox One, Suh was able to spend time with teammates, family, friends and even fans in Miami to check out the game and get to know those involved.
“It’s great,” Suh said about getting out and enjoying a game like Gears of War 4 while speaking to Campus Sports. “Obviously being a part of the Xbox family, it’s a great opportunity to have these exclusive opportunities to get together with teammates, friends and family and play these great games, especially Gears.”
Everyone knows what type of competitor Suh is on the field, but what many may not know is how much he wants to win off it, especially when it comes to gaming.
“There’s no question. You never want to lose and never want to get killed. Unfortunately I’m not always the best, and I get a little frustrated and go from there.”
When asked what “going from there” meant, Suh let out a laugh before saying that sometimes you just have to do what you have to do, even if it all is just for fun and games.
“You never get too mad or do anything outrageous, but you don’t like losing,” Suh said. “At the end of the day, if you have to and they’re at your house, you have to kick them out.”
Despite being a self-described casual gamer, Suh said that he was excited for the upcoming release of Gears of War 4 because it’s been a franchise he’s enjoy for some time now. He was even more excited about not only getting to play the game early, but getting to spend time with those he may not get to otherwise.
“Obviously being new to Miami, it’s a great opportunity to me other fans and people who have other interests that are aligned with myself,” he said. “I’m excited and look forward to those opportunities, and I never take them for granted. I chomp at the bits at the opportunity to do them.
“It’s an opportunity for them (fans) to really challenge you since they can’t do it on the football field, and it gives them an opportunity to even the playing field.”
Suh was certain that challenges were going to come in fast from fans for Gears of War 4, but by getting time with the game before its public release on October 11, he said that it’ll give him a bit more time to prepare for what’s to come.
