Saturday Night Live has been having a field day since the Trump administration took to the White House.
Alec Baldwin has played a maniacally-evil buffoon type leader, lacking totally in self-awareness. Word has it that the real Donald Trump isn’t a huge fan; we can’t imagine why.
On last nights show, SNL opened with one of the more bizarre cold opens in some time. Beginning with Baldwin playing the piano in character as President Trump, he is slowly joined by members of his administrations presidential circus.
That includes, of course, Death incarnate Steve Bannon.

In addition to Trump, Beck Bennett played Mike Pence, Kate McKinnon played Kellyanne Conway, Alex Moffat played Eric Trump, Mikey Day played Donald Trump Jr., Aidy Bryant played Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Cecily Strong played Melania Trump, and Ivanka Trump was played by Scarlett Johansson.
The whole crew played a rendition of “Hallelujah.”
It was a clever, understated cold open to start the show. In seasons past, you might have seen the writers change the word to the song and skew things in a more obvious way. This a more understated and effective way to convey the same message.
The entire show was outstanding, if you didn’t get a chance to watch it, do yourself a favor and do so.
