Vice President Mike Pence decided to enjoy his Sunday night taking in a game between the Indianapolis Colts and the San Francisco 49ers. Or rather, he went to Lucas Oil Stadium for a publicity stunt.
After the national anthem, which featured nearly two dozen members of the 49ers taking a knee to protest police brutality and systemic racism, Pence decided to leave.
Pence then took to social media and threw a temper tantrum regarding the “disrespect for the flag” that the players showed and reigniting the silly argument from POTUS which led to league-wide protests two weeks ago.
The vice president cited the disrespect to “our soldiers, our flag, and our national anthem” as his reason for leaving — despite American tax payer dollars being used to provide extra security for his safety at the event.
Here’s Pence’s rant:
I left today's Colts game because @POTUS and I will not dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, our Flag, or our National Anthem.

At a time when so many Americans are inspiring our nation with their courage, resolve, and resilience…

…now, more than ever, we should rally around our Flag and everything that unites us…

While everyone is entitled to their own opinions, I don't think it's too much to ask NFL players to respect the Flag and our National Anthem

I stand with @POTUS Trump, I stand with our soldiers, and I will always stand for our Flag and our National Anthem. pic.twitter.com/B0zP5M41MQ

We were proud to stand – with all our @Colts – for our soldiers, our flag, and our National Anthem 🇺🇸 pic.twitter.com/mkZiKMkPDD

Is it really a surprise that this story happened on the same weekend polls surfaced that show our president with approval ratings at an all-time low? Not at all. When in doubt, fire up the base. That’s the Trump playbook and it’s work yet again.
And of course, Trump took credit for it.
I asked @VP Pence to leave stadium if any players kneeled, disrespecting our country. I am proud of him and @SecondLady Karen.
