A familiar name is going to be back on the Oklahoma football field.
On Friday, three-star wide receiver Drake Stoops, the son of former Sooners head coach Bob Stoops, announced that he will be committing to Oklahoma and will join the program as a preferred walk-on.
The Norman North standout held scholarship offers from programs like Iowa, Ohio, Air Force, Arkansas State, Memphis, Western Kentucky and Youngstown State, but ultimately decided to stay close to home.
Stoops announced his decision with a brief statement on social media.
“I want to thank God for putting me in the position I’m in, and I would also like to thank all the schools that invested their time and interest in me,” Stoops wrote. “Grateful for all of my family’s support, and thank you to Norman North for allowing me to do what I love. I’ve decided to stay home and go to school and play football at the University of Oklahoma.”
