Anna Congdon is the girlfriend of Penn State running back Saquon Barkley, a projected top five pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. The couple is expecting their child later this month. Despite preparing to be a first-time father, Barkley will be in attendance at the draft to hear Roger Goodell call his name when he is selected and his NFL dream becomes a reality.
“My mom told me I have to be a little bit selfish here,” Barkley said, via The Morning Call. “Being able to receive a jersey, and that jersey having your name on it, and being called on that stage is something you dream about as a little kid. I had to be a little selfish there.
“That’s definitely going to be a nervewracking day. It’s not now. I think when the day’s actually here, and you’re sitting in that green room waiting for that phone call, it’s going to be nervewracking. But it’s also going to be a special day, because that’s something you dream about as a little kid.”
Congdon, who was a fellow Penn State student, has been dating Barkley for years.
During his career with the Nittany Lions, Barkley rushed for 3,843 yards and 43 touchdowns. Barkley was a two-time first-team All-Big Ten honoree while winning the conference’s Offensive Player of the Year award in his two most productive seasons. Barkley was a consensus All-American in his final year at Penn State, finishing fourth in Heisman voting in third in Maxwell Award voting.
As for where Barkley will begin his professional career, those questions will be answered in just under two weeks when the 2018 NFL Draft takes place from April 26-28 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
