College News

Dwane Simmons, a junior defensive back for the Washington football team, was shot and killed early Sunday morning in Topeka, Kansas. Also injured in the shooting was roommate and teammate Corey Ballentine, who had been selected by the New York Giants in the NFL Draft hours earlier.

The 2019 NFL Draft is in the books. After three days, a number of players had their longtime dreams come true of making it to the pros. Unfortunately, some players sat through seven rounds without hearing their names called and will now have to work extra hard to make a roster as an undrafted free agent. Among the undrafted free agents are underclassmen who made the decision to leave school early. This year, among the record-setting 144 underclassmen who gave up their college eligibility, 49 were not selected.

SEC football is king. We know that college football is treated as a religion in the south and some of the best programs in the nation are pumped out of the southeastern region, but the SEC confirmed its dominance on the national scene with a new record at the 2019 NFL Draft. When the seven rounds were all said and done with 254 players hearing their names called, a whopping 64 of them came from SEC programs.
