Texas mascot Bevo XV set to debut vs. Notre Dame

The Texas Longhorns have announced their new mascot, Bevo XV, has a date set for its debut.

The school’s newest live mascot is currently undergoing training for his new gig as “the most famous Texas longhorn,” and his debut will come on Sept. 4 when the football team plays host to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Darrell K Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium in the season-opener.

“Bevo has embodied Longhorn pride and Texas spirit for 100 years,” UT president Gregory Fenves said in a statement. “He is part of our campus culture and has watched our football team’s successes for decades. I’m looking forward to seeing Bevo XV in his place of honor on the field this coming season.”

“We are excited to kick off the upcoming athletics season by introducing the newest edition of one of our most beloved traditions at The University of Texas,” athletic director Mike Perrin added. “It’s also appropriate to unveil Bevo XV during this 100th anniversary year. We all look forward to meeting Bevo XV in September.”

Bevo XV is replacing Bevo XIV, the live mascot who died in October of 2015 due to bovine leukemia.
