Former Florida Gators and current Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer has made a positive influence in the lives of many and has developed a number of talented players throughout his coaching years.
One of those players that came up through Meyer’s programs and developed into a star was tight end Aaron Hernandez.
After making his way to the NFL and eventually earning a five-year, $40 million contract with the New England Patriots, it all came spiraling down for the former Gators standout.
Hernandez is set to stand on trial for a double-murder in Boston, while recently receiving a life sentence without the possibility for parole because of a first-degree murder charge stemming from the death of Odin Lloyd.
Much like previous coaches who had ties to Hernandez, Urban Meyer was asked about his former tight end.
Taking the political approach, Meyer made it all about the families involved.
Urban Meyer on the Aaron Hernandez verdict: "My immediate thoughts go to the families involved and just, it was a sad day."

Under the direction of Urban Meyer at Florida from 2007-09, Hernandez became an All-American and the first SEC player to win the John Mackey Award.
