Billy Donovan to Oklahoma City Thunder rumors heating up

The rumors linking Florida Gators head coach Billy Donovan to the NBA have been around for quite some time, but now they are beginning to heat up.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Oklahoma City Thunder fired head coach Scott Brooks after the team failed to make the postseason. As soon as the news broke, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports passed along the news that Billy Donovan is expected to become a “serious candidate” for the job.

Wojnarowski said, “Donovan is expected to become a serious candidate” to replace Brooks. That comes along with the opinion from ESPN’s Marc Stein that Donovan is the “natural favorite.”

Donovan is familiar with Thunder general manager Sam Presti, who hired two members from the front office of Donovan’s staff last year.

In Oklahoma City, Donovan would find himself set up for success with superstar Kevin Durant set to be healthy next season and Russell Westbrook in a contract year.

There aren’t many jobs that could convince Billy Donovan to leave his current job, but it doesn’t get much more appealing than the current situation in OKC.
