We have known for quite some time that the NCAA Tournament is widely popular in large part because of the large amount of money that is spent on gambling during the event.
This year was no different.
According to a report from Covers.com, a whopping $375.5 million was bet on college basketball in March. As you would expect, most of that money — around $260 million — was wagered solely on the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
The amount of money wagered in the Nevada sportsbooks crushed the previous record.
Before March rolled around this year, the record amount of money gambled on college basketball in a month was $343.5 million back in 2014.
So, while people want to say the one-and-done rule could be ruining the sport, it doesn’t seem to be deterring bettors.
