John Calipari Denies Interest In Pelicans Position

Just when the Pelicans thought they had the answer, John Calipari changed the question.

Earlier on Tuesday, reports came rolling in that the Kentucky head basketball coach had announced his interest in the New Orleans Pelicans head coaching vacancy. Calipari quickly took to Twitter to deny the reports, according to SI.com.

The Pelicans fired former head coach Monty Williams just a week after their exit from the NBA playoffs thanks to a first round sweep at the hands of the Golden State Warriors. The rumors began flooding the headlines as current Chicago Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeaux and Calipari have both had their names tossed into the hat for possible replacements.

The latter coach had a brief run in the NBA with the New Jersey Nets from 1996-1999 until he was fired just twenty games into his third season after amassing a dismal 72-112 record. He returned to the college ranks just a few months later and led Memphis to three Elite Eight appearances and a spot in the national championship game. He has helped the Wildcats win a national title in 2012 and make four Final Four appearances since taking the job at Kentucky.
