In what was a surprising turn of events on Thursday, John Calipari joined The Dan Patrick Show and their interview quickly turned ugly. Patrick criticized Calipari’s use of the “platoon system” and things got chippy between the two. And that’s when the college basketball world went crazy.
On Friday, Calipari took to Twitter to try to alleviate the pressure of the situation by saying that he and Patrick have been close friends for years. According to College Spun, Calipari said that he and his wife were laughing about the response the interview, most notably his ending remarks, received.
Ellen and I were laughing at the response to the @dpshow yesterday. I would only go on a show with someone I’m comfortable with.

Okay Coach, we believe you about being good friends with Patrick, but you have to admit that he struck a nerve with you in his criticism. Ever since the Kentucky Wildcats lost in the Final Four in March, Calipari has had to defend his coaching tactics. Now he may just be eating his words from yesterday’s show.
