There have been some pretty powerful duos of running backs in the past when it comes to college football. Who can forget the combination of Barry Sanders and Thurman Thomas? Or what about Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson terrorizing the SEC? Or how about LenDale White and Reggie Bush at Southern California? They were all terrific running back duos.
We now know the next great running back duo and it may surprise you.
NFL.com ranked the ten best running back duos in college football for the 2015 season and, surprisingly, my personal number one pick, Georgia’s Nick Chubb and Keith Marshall, didn’t even make the top three. It was another pair of SEC running backs that topped the list.
Arkansas running backs Johnathan Williams and Alex Collins topped the list of powerful duos like Chubb and Marshall, Oklahoma’s Samaje Perine and Alex Ross, and Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliot and Bri’Onte Dunn.
It was, however, for good reason.
Both Collins and Williams rushed for over 1.000 yards last season and Collins is looking to rush for 1,000 yards for the third consecutive season. The pair of Hogs helped Arkansas win a bowl game last season after going 3-9 in 2013.
The NFL also named the best pairs of running backs in conferences that were left out and the pair of Georgia Southern running backs, Matt Brieda and L.A. Ramsby, could have easily taken a spot on the top ten.
