In review: 2015 E3 Gaming Conference

After the showcase at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) conference in Los Angeles last week (June 16-18), a few franchises unveiled new installments that promoted a promising outlook on the gaming industry for the next calendar year.

With its inaugural convention in May 1995, E3 featured industry leaders, such as SEGA’s Tom Kalinske, Sony’s Olaf Olaffson and Nintendo’s Howard Lincoln.

A synopsis of upcoming game releases and their launch dates:

Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate
Where: London
When: 1868, during the Industrial Revoution
Who: Brother and sister duo, Jacob and Evie Frye
Special notes: with the add-on of the rope launcher, traditional climbing in the Assassin’s Creeds series might be eliminated
Release date: Oct. 23, 2015

Halo 5: Guardians
Who: Master Chief, Spartan Locke, The Covenant, The Prometheans
Special notes: new multiplayer game mode, “warzone”, allows two 12v12 teams to battle one another, in addition to defending themselves against Promethean and Covenant enemies
Release date: Oct. 27, 2015

Call of Duty: BLOPS III
When: 2065 – 40 years after BLOPS II
What: integration of hacking and deployment of nanodrones in campaign mode
Special notes: a momentum-based, chain movement system allows for better – and smoother – motion transitioning; “specialist” feature in multiplayer employs a list readily available of nine elite soldiers that can be ranked according to player specifications
Release date: Nov. 6, 2015

Fallout 4
Where: Boston, MA
Who: Inhabitant from Vault 111
When: 200 years post-atomic war
Special notes: aside from crafting buildings and players, gamers are now allowed to modify upwards of 50 base weapons with 700 options
Release date: Nov. 10, 2015
