Alumni basketball games are usually put on by high schools and you see a lot of old guys going out on the court and trying to relive the glory days. It usually ends with one of them puling a hamstring or just getting worked over by the guys that just graduated high school and play basketball every single day.
In what could be just a fantasy match-up, two of the nation’s premiere basketball programs are in talks of setting up an alumni game of their own this fall. According to College Spun, Kentucky and North Carolina seem to be in talks of making it happen.
The report came from Kentucky Sports Radio and it could not be more awesome with two current NBA stars said to be the captains for their respective teams.
We’ve been told there could potentially be a UK vs. UNC game in Rupp Arena, with John Wall and Harrison Barnes serving as team captains. The game will feature several NBA stars from the two schools and it will coincide with Coach Cal’s fantasy camp, as we’ve seen with alumni games in the past.
The rivalry/alumni game isn’t set in stone just yet, but several people are working hard to try to make it a reality. Look toward the second weekend in September as a possible date if (or when) it is going down.
Could you imagine if Harrison Barnes, Tyler Hansbrough, and Ty Lawson took on John Wall, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Anthony Davis? That would be amazing. What would be even more amazing is if His Royal Airness, Michael Jordan laced up his shoes and took the court.
Fat chance, but I can dream.
