While ACC commissioner John Swofford’s conference was not left out of the College Football Playoff last season, he has still made it clear that he has no problem with the playoff expanding in the future. He took the stage at the ACC Football Kickoff Monday and talked about more teams playing for the national championship.
According to College Football Talk, Swofford talked about it being better for the fans to add more teams to the mix. It would also generate more revenue for both the Playoff and the schools.
“In a perfect world, if you only want to talk about football, and only about a playoff, yeah, eight would probably be better,” Swofford said Monday.
He quickly compromised that statement by showing his full support for the four-team format. Swofford doesn’t feel that the format will change before its twelve-year contract is up. Fans may push for it to happen, but it is all about money in the end.
I personally believe an expansion would be a good thing. I totally agree with the statement “More football is better football.” We may be stuck with the current format for a while and people will complain. Honestly, I am just glad football is back for another season.
