ESPN, MVC agree to 10-year contract extension

ESPN and the Missouri Valley Conference have agreed to a ten-year contract extension which pushes their deal through the 2023-2024 academic year.

According to the Associated Press, the extension gives ESPN the rights to both the men and women’s basketball tournaments. The ESPN Family of Networks will also broadcast multiple men’s games that will air on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, and ESPNEWS.

The Missouri Valley Conference has gained a lot of prominence in the last few seasons after Wichita State made the Final Four in 2013 and then went 34-0 in 2014. In this most recent tournament, the MVC was represented by both the Shockers and the Northern Iowa Panthers, who have success in past tournaments as well.

Fans of mid-major basketball will surely be happy to see some more of the conference on television over the next few seasons. I am just ready for college basketball to be back this season.
