Did the Maui Invitational predict the 2016 Final Four?

The Maui Invitational is always one of the most exciting early season basketball tournaments. The players all get to spend a week in Hawaii and fans get treated to some great games.

This year’s Invitational may have done something more than just provide great games. It could have predicted the Final Four for the season.

ESPN released the brackets and their match-ups for the 2015 Invitational early Tuesday morning. This year’s tournament pits Kansas and Indiana, the two favorites, on opposite sides of the bracket.

The six other teams in the bracket this year are host Chaminade, UCLA, UNLV, Wake Forest, St. John’s and Vanderbilt. Kansas will play Chaminade with the winner playing the winner of UNLV/UCLA. On the other side of the bracket, Indiana plays Wake Forest with the winner facing the winner of Vanderbilt/St. John’s.

If the favorites work out, we could be seeing a loaded semifinals round in the Invitational. Kansas vs. UCLA and Indiana vs. Vanderbilt makes for a couple of great games and great television ratings. This could also be a very early prediction of the 2016 NCAA Tournament Final Four.

It would certainly be great for fans as all four teams have a rich history of basketball with all but Vanderbilt making appearances in the Final Four and winning titles.

Kansas and Indiana have both been ranked in ESPN’s early Top 25, with Kansas ranked sixth and Indiana ranked fourteenth.

The Maui Invitational tips off on November 23 and runs through November 25.
