Video: Ohio State DB makes crazy backflip catch

You know the old mantra “you play defense because you can’t catch”? Well, Ohio State defensive back Gareon Conley heard about that and he decided to prove whoever says it wrong.

College Spun shared a video of Conley making a ridiculous catch while doing a backflip. Yeah, Ryan Parker of Oklahoma did this too, but Conley’s is just a little more impressive.

Why was Conley’s catch any more impressive than Parker’s? Well, while they are both very athletic catches, Conley will be looked at as more impressive simply because he plays defense.

It is said that wide receivers get moved to defensive back because they can’t catch. When I played high school football, the defensive backs coach wouldn’t let you play cornerback or safety unless you had good hands. So I grew up never really knowing that saying.

Conley may have tried his best to prove people wrong with this video, but he will have to translate to the field this season if he wants to nail home his point. Conley is a rising true sophomore and after playing in all fifteen games in 2014, he will hope to earn a starting role for the upcoming season.

Ohio State opens the season on September 7 when they travel to Virginia Tech to play the Hokies.
