Texas’ mascot Bevo will not attend opening game

The Texas Longhorns open the 2015 season in South Bend, Indiana to play the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. While a ton of Longhorn fans are sure to be in attendance, one big part of the Texas family will not be able to make the trip.

According to Texas 247, Bevo, the Longhorns’ 2,000-pound live Longhorn, will not be able to make the trip to Indiana. This is due to Notre Dame’s no live mascot policy in the stadium. Texas tweeted from the official Bevo Twitter account to break the news to disappointed Texas fans.

Although Texas will not be allowed to bring Bevo onto the field at Notre Dame, they will be able to bring their costumed mascot Hook ‘Em and their “Show Band of the Southwest” if they so please.

What I don’t understand is the fact that Notre Dame has a live mascot every home game. That little leprechaun freaks me out. Apparently, one Texas fan pointed that out as well.

The Longhorns/Irish game is scheduled for September 5 at 6:30 and will be televised nationally on NBC.
