SMU adds former Gamecock to defensive line

The SMU Mustangs have gotten some seriously-needed help along the defensive line for the 2015 season. Former South Carolina defensive lineman Deon Green has had an injury-riddled career since landing in Columbia. He has now found a new home for the upcoming season.

According to College Football Talk, Green, who missed the 2011 and 2012 season due to a knee injury, decided to transfer from the Gamecocks after the 2013 season, will be taking his talents to the American Athletic Conference. He sat out the 2014 season, so he will be eligible to play immediately upon arrival in Dallas.

Green only played in two games during the 2013 season for the Gamecocks and only recorded four tackles. Hopefully he will be able to produce a lot more for the Mustangs in the future.

The Mustangs will surely need as much production as possible. The team went 1-11 last season and were ranked 113th in the nation in total sacks, 117th against the run, and 124th in total tackles for loss.

If it’s any indication, there were 128 football teams competing in the FBS last season.

The Mustangs host the Baylor Bears on September 5 to open the season.
