Iowa to host wrestling meet in Kinnick Stadium before game

In what has become one of the most interesting developments of Wednesday’s sports news, there are reports that say the Iowa Hawkeyes will host a wrestling meet in Kinnick Stadium the same day the football team is scheduled to face Minnesota. The reports say that the meet will take place prior to the night game scheduled for November 14. first reported the news and it seems like some fans are taking to the possibility of having a wrestling meet inside a football stadium quite well.

The meet is scheduled to take place between the Hawkeyes, who are one of the most successful programs this decade, and the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The Hawkeyes have won twenty-three national championships in the sport. They were runners-up last year to Ohio State.

From 1975-1986,excluding 1977, and then again from 1991-2000, excluding 1994, the Hawkeyes won the NCAA wrestling tournament. The team also won the championship from 2008-2010.

Having such a meet inside a 70,000+ seat stadium would make any sporting fan want to attend. The current attendance record for a collegiate wrestling event is 15,996 set by Penn State in 2013.

I hope this is happening. Not for the sake of the record, but for what good it would do for the sport of amateur wrestling.
