Some sad news to report coming out of Clemson, South Carolina. Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney’s father, Ervil, passed away Saturday afternoon. Ervil had been battling cancer for some time.
The news was broken by Tigernet.com on Saturday evening. This is surely going to be a tough thing for Dabo to deal with this season that is rapidly approaching.
Coordinators Brent Venables, Tony Elliot, and Jeff Scott ran the Tigers’ practice on Saturday and will run them on Monday as well. Dabo is expected to return to the team late Tuesday.
Dabo will certainly have something to be coaching for this season and that isn’t just the ACC Championship. He will do his best to stay strong, because I know that is what his father would have wanted.
The Tigers open the season on September 5 when they host the Wofford Terriers.
We at Campus Sports send our deepest condolences to the Swinney family in their time of grief.
