Mark Stoops names Patrick Towles starting Kentucky QB

In a decision that probably comes a shock to nobody, head Kentucky football coach Mark Stoops has named Patrick Towles the starting quarterback for the 2015 season. It’s not too much of a surprise that Towles won the job after having a terrific 2014 season.

The announcement came from Brett Dawson of Rivals via Twitter. Towles will be a true junior this season, so he looks to be able to lead the Wildcats for his final two years of eligibility.

Towles had a good season for the Wildcats in 2014. He went 225-392 with 2,718 yards and fourteen touchdowns against nine interceptions. His best game came in a 45-31 loss to Mississippi State when he threw for a career-high 390 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for seventy-six yards and two touchdowns.

Towles helped the Wildcats take big steps in the first half of the season. The team was 5-1 before ending the season on a six game losing streak.

The Wildcats open the 2015 season on September 5 when they host Louisiana-Lafayette.
