It was no huge surprise that Ohio State was voted as the number one team in the country for the preseason Top 25 for the upcoming college football season. A big surprise was that Michigan was left off the list.
Now, they didn’t do anything last season that makes them deserving of a spot on the preseason poll because they went 5-7, but with coach Jim Harbaugh now at the reigns, it’s surprising that the team didn’t get more votes than they did.
As it turns out, the Michigan Wolverines only received one vote to get into to the preseason Top 25.
That was certainly not enough to crack the list, but that isn’t the most interesting part to come out of Sunday’s poll. Apparently, the lone vote for the Wolverines came from David Briggs.
“Who is David Briggs?”, you might ask. Well, he is a Ohio State football and basketball beat writer for the Toledo Blade.
Yep, that’s right folks. The lone vote for the Wolverines came from an Ohio-based writer. You can even see the foreshadowing “…” as if Briggs was nervous to actually put on social media that he voted for his favorite team’s arch enemy.
He may have woken up to threats and a slew of insults Monday morning, but he may be right. Harbaugh has the team on the up, but for now, we will have to wait and see what they can do.
The Wolverines open the season on September 5 when they travel to play the Utah Utes.
