Kickers may not always get the recognition they deserve, but one that is for sure is that there is a ton of pressure on them every time they step out onto the field. The don’t know really how to emulate that same kind of pressure in practice as they usually kick away from the rest of the team, but the Clemson Tigers have sure learned how to get that big game feel.
College Spun shared a video of Greg Huegel, who recently took over for Ammon Lakip after he was suspended for his arrest earlier this year, practicing his field goals in a fairly intense situation. The entire team circled around him and really made him feel like he was in a gametime scenario.
If he isn’t ready for a big moment at some point in the season, then he never will be. This is a perfect way to train your kicker to relax when getting ready for a big kick.
We will find out if it worked on September 5 when the Tigers host Wofford.
