There have been some great sports moments in the long history of televised athletics. To go along with those moments, there have bene even better commentary on the plays.
ESPN did something really odd earlier this week when they hosted a segment called “Weezy on the Call.” It sounds exactly what it reads like. They had rapper Lil Wayne on the show and they decided to have him do some voice overs on the greatest calls in sports history.
USA TODAY’s For the Win had the video and I kind of wish I had never watched it.
While I admit Wayne’s call for Havlicek stealing the ball was pretty good, his recreation of Al Michaels’s Miracle on Ice upset me just a little bit. Actually a lot, but at least he made it up with Bill Raftery’s call of Jerome Lane’s backboard-shattering dunk.
The end result of all this is that Lil Wayne should just stick to rapping. Let the guys who get paid to call game handle that. Please.
