Video: Utah fakes punt after first attempt hits skycam wire

The Utah Utes did just about everything right in their blowout win over the Oregon Ducks on Saturday. In the third quarter of the game, the Utes did something a lot of people would criticize. They ran a fake punt while they were up by 28 points.

Their fake punt came at a perfect time though. Utah punter Tom Hackett’s first attempt went so high up in the air that it hit the wire to the skycam flying around the field.

The Utes thought “What the hell” and decided to go for a fake on the re-kick. Hacket made another athletic play when the punt snap was high. He had to leap nearly out of his shoes to snag the punt then he followed blockers and raced for the first down.

I guess it’s fitting that he was wearing number 33. Odell Beckham Jr. wore that number for his first two years of school while at LSU and Hackett certainly had to channel him to make the grab.

Maybe this is why the Utes were ranked in the AP Top Ten and got a vote to be the number one team in the country.
