Report: Houston OC Major Applewhite interested in Texas State HC job

Since 2003, Major Applewhite has been one of the premiere assistant coaches in all of college football. He was a big reason why the Houston Cougars were one of the best teams in the country this year and it looks like he could be taking all he learned from Tom Herman and translating it into a head coaching position.

Texas State is one of the final head coaching vacancies in the FBS and they could be getting close to hiring their next head coach. According to reports, Applewhite has emerged as an “interested party” in the vacancy.

Applewhite has served as the offensive coordinator for Rice, Alabama, Texas, his Alma Mater, and Houston throughout his career. He certainly has a resume worth of being a head coach.
