After the Indianapolis Colts fell to 8-8 on the year and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2011 and only the second time since 2002, it was pretty clear that head coach Chuck Pagano was going to be fired. However, the team surprised everyone when they announced they had signed Pagano to a contract extension.
The move was pretty surprising, but it seems like the Colts have a pretty good reason for it. According to reports, the team only signed Pagano to an extension after talks with the New Orleans Saints and their head coach, Sean Payton, fell through.
The Saints have already stated that if a team wants to sign Payton away, they would need to give up a second round pick. This would serve as restitution to Payton’s contract, of which he just completed year three of a five-year deal this season.
Now that the Colts are stuck with Pagano for at least one more year, you have to wonder what is going to happen with this team in 2016. Will there be more problems on who the upper management wants to see play and Pagano disobeys them? We just have to wait and see for that.
