An estimated $10 million changed hands after Clemson’s last-minute TD

Coming into last night’s College Football Playoff championship game, the Alabama Crimson Tide were favored to win by a touchdown. For a while, it looked like the game would come down to a final play before the Tide broke open an 11-point lead on a Kenyan Drake kickoff return touchdown.

The Tide were up 45-33 with just over a minute left in the game and a lot of people who went with Las Vegas bookers were pretty excited. However, the Clemson Tigers were not going to give up and Deshaun Watson hit Jordan Leggett with a touchdown over the middle, making the final score 45-40.

After that touchdown, it was reported by ESPN’s Darren Rovell that an estimated $10 million changed hands after that touchdown that some fans called “meaningless.”

I can guarantee the people that picked against the spread didn’t find that score meaningless at all. Forget tomorrow’s Powerball lottery, I am betting on sporting events from now on.
