Fournette, 2015 finalists top early 2016 Heisman odds

It is never too early to take a look at the Heisman Trophy favorites for the 2016 season and that is exactly what Bovada did on Tuesday. The betting company released their early odds for the award for the 2016 season and there are some pretty familiar names on the list.

Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson has had a magnificent pair of seasons for the last two years and he is poised to make a run at the Heisman Trophy again in 2016, which is partially why he leads the odds at 9/2. Both LSU running back Leonard Fournette and fellow 2015 finalist Christian McCaffrey came in at second with 5/1 odds.

Early Heisman odds: Watson-9/2; Fournette & McCaffrey 5/1; Barrett & Mayfield 10/1; Chubb/D.Cook/Freeman/C.Kelly/Perine/Ridley 12/1 (Bovada)

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to see quarterbacks Baker Mayfield and J.T. Barrett on the list. However, seeing Florida State running back Dalvin Cook so far down the list is probably going to tick off a lot of Seminole fans.

The season is still months away and the trophy won’t be handed out until December. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this list change dramatically before the season even kicks off.
