The Southern Miss Golden Eagles were one of the most surprising teams in the country during the 2015 season after they went 9-3 and played for their first Conference USA championship since 2011. This came after going 1-11 and 3-9 the previous two seasons.
The Golden Eagles will now be on the lookout for a new coach after it was reported on Sunday that head coach Todd Monken had been hired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as their new offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach.
New Bucs head coach Dirk Koetter was promoted from the offensive coordinator position just a few weeks ago after Lovie Smith was fired. Koetter and Monken reunite for the first time since 2010, when the latter worked under the former as wide receivers coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
In three seasons with the Golden Eagles, Monken led went 13-25, but nine of those wins came in the 2015 season. He led the Golden Eagles to their first winning season since winning the C-USA and the Hawaii Bowl under Larry Fedora in 2011.
