On Sunday, it was announced that Southern Miss head coach Todd Monken had left the team to take the offensive coordinator job with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Golden Eagles were one of the hottest teams in the country during the 2015 season, so their job just became a pretty popular option for many coaches around the country.
One coach that is already considered a candidate for the job is former offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey, according to FootballScoop. Lindsey left Hattiesburg to take the same position at Arizona State in December, replacing Mike Norvell who became the new head coach at Memphis.
This would be a good hire for the Golden Eagles as Lindsey served under Monken as offensive coordinator for the last two seasons. It would be his first collegiate head coaching job in his career that has spanned nearly 20 years.
