To be a star quarterback in the NFL, it takes a whole lot more than just being a great athlete. Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Aaron Rodgers all have one thing in common: their good character.
If you don’t have a good demeanor about you, you will never last long in the league, no matter what position you play. It seems a potential top five pick has characteristics that have drawn praise from coaches around the NFL.
Cleveland Browns’ head coach Hue Jackson spoke with cleveland.com about Carson Wentz, who has gained a ton of momentum during the Senior Bowl practices. He talked about how he loved meeting Wentz and said it’s important to know how they carry themselves off the field as well as on.
“It’s always hard when you’re sitting in the stands watching these young guys, but he has a lot of the characteristics that you look for,” Jackson told the website. “Again, it’s just so early in this process and until you can really study them and get to know them will you really be able to make a sound judgment.”
Wentz talked about meeting with Jackson and said that the coach “seemed like a really good guy.”
The Browns have been projected, by many outlets, to take Wentz with the second overall pick in April. If Jackson already thinks this highly of him, hearing Wentz’s name called early on Day 1 wouldn’t be a surprise.
