Despite a few players passing him up on current draft boards, former Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch still has a chance to show off his skills to NFL scouts before the Draft in April. He will undoubtedly be a first-round pick for some team in Chicago, but the question now is, who will pick him up.
Lynch joined the Afternoon Show with Cowlishaw and Mosley on ESPN Radio 103.3 KESN-FM on Wednesday to discuss the possibility of being drafted to a team with a starting quarterback already in place, namely the Dallas Cowboys. He said that he would have no problem sitting behind Tony Romo or any other quarterback before getting his opportunity and credited it to his maturity over the last few years.
“I’d be more than OK with doing whatever was best for me and the team and whatever team I got picked up by,” Lynch explained. “When I first got to school, I didn’t want to redshirt or anything. I thought I could go in there and play, but I realized later on down the road as I grew up and matured, I realized that redshirting is a good thing. You get a chance to sit back and learn what you need to learn and take care of your business off the field. I know if I got to sit behind somebody like a veteran quarterback, whoever it may be, I know that that would be a great learning experience to develop me mentally and physically in the game, give me a year just to sit back and see how you handle things professionally.”
Lynch has been considered one of the best quarterbacks available in the 2016 NFL Draft for some time now and this proves that he is willing to help any team in whatever capacity they need. That is the true sign of a great and humble quarterback that any team would likely love to have leading their franchise into the future.
