‘Nova, Providence dealing with injuries ahead of Saturday’s rematch

It’s pretty clear that the Big East is going to come down to three teams this season. The Villanova Wildcats, Providence Friars, and Xavier Musketeers are the only teams in competition for the conference title and may be the only ones to make the NCAA Tournament.

The former two teams face off in a big rematch on Saturday as the Wildcats visit the Friars. It looks like both teams are dealing with injuries heading into the game.

Villanova center Daniel Ochefu hasn’t played since their loss to the Friars after suffering a concussion in practice. This has caused both Darryl Reynolds and Kris Jenkins to step up in his absence.

As for the Friars, forward Ben Bentil has been listed as day-to-day after suffering an ankle injury in Wednesday’s upset loss to DePaul. This could force freshman Quadree Smith to step up in his place for the game on Saturday, which could hurt them in the long run.

This is going to end up being a huge game when it comes to seeding in both the Big East and NCAA Tournaments. The Friars and Wildcats take the court at 2:30 p.m. EST on Saturday and the game will be televised on FOX Sports 1.
