Report: Texas losing assistant Jay Norvell to Arizona State

In December, Jay Norvell was reported to be a candidate for the offensive coordinator job at Arizona State. The team ended up going a different direction, hiring Chip Lindsey away from Southern Miss to run their offense.

Now, it is being reported that Norvell has in fact left the Longhorns for Todd Graham’s club in the desert. Charlie Strong confirmed to College Football Talk that he had lost one of his assistants, who was later revealed to be Norvell, due to “circumstances [that] have put us in a position that we are going to part ways.”

Norvell even took to Twitter Friday morning to say a goodbye to the Texas program.

Norvell was brought in from Oklahoma as their wide receivers coach in 2015. He was later given play-calling duties after Strong demoted Joe Wickline and Shawn Watson.

Norvell has not confirmed in what capacity he joins the Sun Devils, but he will be in Tempe this September. Strong, on the other hand, now has three vacancies to fill before the season begins.
