The Eastern Washington Eagles are trying to make a late-season push to help their seeding in the Big Sky Conference Tournament as they are sitting at 15-10 and third in the conference. The team has won six straight games to get to 9-4 in the conference.
Last week, they got much-needed wins over North Dakota and Northern Colorado. This is due to the play of senior point guard Austin McBroom, who named the Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week by the United States Basketball Writers Association on Tuesday.
This was mostly thanks to his career-high 37 points in the Eagles’ 97-80 win over the Bears on Saturday. He was 7-12 from three-point range in the big win, but earlier in the week he had an ever bigger showing.
He scored 35 points in the win over the Fighting Hawks in a 95-85 victory. His showing in Thursday’s game coupled with Saturday’s personal record setter, McBroom finished the week 88 percent from the free throw line and hitting 12 of his 20 three-point attempts.
