The UTSA Roadrunners are trying to move on from former head coach Larry Coker and they did so by hiring former LSU running backs coach Frank Wilson. He is busy finding staff members for his first season as head coach and looked to the SEC to find his running backs coach.
According to College Football Talk, former South Carolina running backs coach Everette Sands has been hired to the same position at UTSA. He was one of the many coaches left out in the cold after Will Muschamp was hired in Columbia.
“Adding a coach the caliber of Everette Sands to our staff is a coup for UTSA,” Wilson said in his statement. “He is a veteran coach who has a history of developing NFL-caliber running backs. He has a wealth of knowledge and expertise, and I can’t wait to see him get to work with his position group with the return of 1,000-yard back Jarveon Williams and a host of quality depth.”
Sands has spent most of his career on the East Coast, spending time at North Carolina State and The Citadel. This should be a big pickup for Wilson and the Roadrunners, who are looking to get back to bowl eligibility after going 4-8 and 3-9 the last two years.
