Video: Indiana student hits half-court shot, wins free tuition

It’s pretty rare to attend a basketball game these days and not see some kind of shooting competition at halftime. Whether it’s high school, college, or the NBA, they have some kind of entertainment at the intermission.

For colleges, students usually get the opportunity to play compete in a shootout to win a large sum of money, which usually go towards their tuition. While it wasn’t at the halftime of a game, Indiana student Jake Newlander got the opportunity to win free tuition for himself and he came through in the clutch.

He had 24 seconds to make a lay-up, free throw, a three-pointer, and a half-court shot at a 3 vs 3 basketball tournament put on by the Indiana chapter of the Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity on Wednesday. It was a pretty impressive performance.

The official Twitter account of Assembly Hall, home of Hoosier basketball, gave Newlander a shout out after his big win. They even tried to get SportsCenter to feature it on their Top Ten plays.

I don’t know if they were able to get him featured, but it was certainly a fun run to watch.
