The New York Jets finished the 2015 season 10-6 and just barely missed making the playoffs. The team had success mostly because of their defense and they look to be big-time competitors in the AFC in 2016.
They have locked up at least one of their biggest contributors for the 2016 season. According to NFL Media’s Kimberly Jones, the Jets are expected to place their franchise tag on defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson.
NYJ will place franchise tag on Muhammad Wilkerson by 4pm Tuesday deadline, according to someone with knowledge of team's plans.

Wilkerson has slowly become the face of the Jets’ defense the last few years. He has racked up 37 sacks since being drafted in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft, including a career-high 12 in 2015.
He is easily the team’s best draft pick this century outside of cornerback Darrelle Revis. He is certainly going to be a big reason why they are able to compete in the NFL this year.
If you pair Wilkerson up with the team’s 2015 first-round pick Leonard Williams, the Jets are certainly in the best position they could be with their defensive line.
