Phil Knight named Forbes’ richest person in sports

If you are to think some of the wealthiest people in sports today, you would probably have a few athletes come to mind. Boxers Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao immediately come to my mind for that.

However, there is another person that makes even more money that them and he has never seen the field as an athlete. Phil Knight, co-founder of Nike, was recently named Forbes Magazine’s richest person in sports.

Knight comes in as the world’s 24th richest billionaire on the annual list, but he has the distinction of being the richest person in sports. An interesting note that shows just how much money he has comes from ESPN’s Darren Rovell.

Okay, that is pretty impressive, I don’t care you ask. You mean that Knight nearly bought the team from the richest owner in ALL sports?

Wow. Another interesting note is that Ballmer is 26th on Forbes’ list with the next sports person being Seattle Seahawks owner Paul Allen at No. 40 and worth just under $18 billion.

This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, however, seeing as how Nike is the largest sports apparel company in the world today.
