Video: Padres P James Shields nails epic bat flip after crushing hit

|

Spring training games for the 2016 MLB season have just began and we may already have the best bat flip of the year. After Toronto Blue Jay Jose Bautista gave us one of the biggest reasons to hate the move, it probably shouldn’t be celebrated all that much.

However, after seeing what San Diego Padres pitcher James Shields did during practice, you almost have to applaud him. He pulled out of a slash bunt and crushed a shot during batting practice.

He then proceeded to send his bat flying into outer space in celebration and it was pretty epic.

Maybe this is one big reason why the National League still forces their pitchers to hit. We can only hope that Shields gets the chance to show off his bat-flipping skills at some point during the season.

I think I would be okay with a suspension from the league for a bat flip that good.
