Report: Bucs, Doug Martin fail to close gap

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin has had one of the best turnarounds in the NFL the last few years. This means he is certainly going to be a big free agent come next Wednesday if the two sides don’t come up with an agreement soon.

It doesn’t look like the gap between them is closing at this point. Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reported on Saturday that Bucs general manager Jason Licht and Martin’s agent Brian Murphy are still pretty far away from reaching any kind of agreement.

Martin came back from a devastating injury which has hampered him the last two years after a promising start in his rookie season in 2012. He rushed for 1,402 yards, second behind Adrian Peterson for the rushing title, and six touchdowns.

He is certainly going to be a big part of some team in the NFL going forward. The only question now is who will that team be?
