If you need further proof that social media is one of the most powerful tools in today’s day and age, look no further than the Ohio State Buckeyes football program.
On Thursday, it was announced that the Buckeyes have specifically created a staff position to manage various social media accounts.
The new position will be responsible for sending recruiting updates on Twitter and Snapchat specifically. The person who lands the “director of new and creative media” position will be responsible for overseeing a staff of nine others.
And while the staff position may seem a little unnecessary to some, don’t tell that to the higher ups at Ohio State.
“We don’t just add positions at Ohio State to add them,” Ohio State’s executive associate director Martin Jarmond said, via the Columbus Business First. “There has to be a business reason.
“It’s extremely important. Our kids now live on their phone. That’s the reality.”
With so many college aged kids buried in their phones throughout the day, it is definitely easy to understand why such a strong focus has been put on social media. Perhaps this will give Ohio State a recruiting advantage just like that team up north’s satellite camps.
