Johnny Manziel is finally on the outs. In one of the least surprising stories of the early part of the NFL’s 2016 calendar, the Cleveland Browns have officially cut ties with the controversial quarterback.
Manziel’s exit from Cleveland is something that has been expected, but the Browns’ hands were tied until March 9.
As soon as Cleveland was able to cut ties with Manziel, they were quick to pull the trigger. The release became official on Friday afternoon.
Johnny Manziel’s time in Cleveland was a wild road. He had his shot at running the first-team offense and showed flashes of positive potential, but his inability to stay focused and out of trouble off the field ultimately led to his downfall.
At the end of last season, there were reports of Manziel partying in Las Vegas and going AWOL from the team rather than reporting to go through concussion protocol.
Then, after the season was over, the most serious incident involving Manziel became public. Manziel reportedly hit and threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend. The case is still ongoing, but it is a serious black mark on Manziel’s resume and teams will need to do their own independent investigations before bringing the quarterback on board as a free agent.
