How much is your average college basketball player worth? According to Business Insider, they’re worth more if they play for the Louisville Cardinals or Duke Blue Devils.
The Business Insider study took a look at the top 20 programs in terms of revenue to determine the average cost of each player.
When the results were tallied, Louisville players were determined to be worth a leading $1.7 million per year on average, while Duke came in second at $1.3 million a year. Syracuse, the only other program to top $1 million, rounded out the top three at $1.1 million.
The Division I average is $296, 723.
Here is how the numbers were determined: “Using the NBA’s most recent collective bargaining agreement in which the players receive a minimum of 49% of all revenue, each school’s men’s basketball revenue was split between the school and the athletes with the players’ share divided evenly among the 13 scholarship players”
