California Golden Bears head basketball coach Cuonzo Martin could be in some hot water. On Wednesday, Martin became linked to the scandal when it was reported that former Cal assistant Yann Hufnagel’s sexual harassment was actual known for months before being reported.
Hufnagel was fired earlier this week for sexually harassing a reporter that covered the basketball team.
But the ugly turn for Martin came when emails obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle indicated he knew of the harassment two months before it was ever reported to the university.
“In a statement to UC investigators, in which he was not named but called ‘Witness 1,’ Martin said that when the accuser contacted him in May, she did not provide details or descriptions that constituted sexual harassment. The woman told investigators that she told Martin in May that she was being sexually harassed by Hufnagel,” the report read.
This is obviously a bad look for Martin.
Considering Martin’s job security at Cal is already less than certain, this could spell doom for his tenure with the team.
